What is Dynamic Surface Electromyography?
Dr. Deltoff has been utilizing dynamic surface electromyography, or SEMG, since 1993. Similar to an electrocardiogram (or ECG), this diagnostic test helps to visualize how spinal muscles function during movement.
Other clinics offer SEMG but they utilize static SEMG. This mode of diagnosis measures muscle activity at each spinal level in a standing, neutral position. In contrast, the dynamic mode uses adhesive electrodes and measures muscle activity in real time while a patient moves through a series of ranges of motion. Generally speaking, static is like a photograph while dynamic is like a video. At Welcome Back, Dr. Deltoff uses the most state-of-the-art dynamic SEMG as a tool to assess the progress of treatment.
